4 Tips To Prevent Hearing Loss

Many people lose their hearing to some degree over the years. Although you can't completely prevent hearing loss, there are things that you can do to help preserve your hearing. These are a few things that you can do to maintain your hearing.

1. Wear Hearing Protection

First of all, it is important to always wear hearing protection when you are in loud situations. If you are going to be operating equipment that is noisy, you should wear ear plugs. You should also wear ear plugs if you are working in a noisy factory or if you are at a loud event, such as a concert or a car race.

2. Turn the Music Down

Listening to loud music might be a lot of fun, but it can also be damaging to your hearing. Avoid wearing earphones when it isn't necessary, since this puts the sound very close to your ears. If the music that you are listening to is loud enough that you can't hear someone speaking in a regular voice while sitting near you, then you should turn it down.

3. Eat Healthy Foods

Did you know that certain foods can actually help you maintain your hearing? Research shows that eating both folate and omega-3 fatty acids can help you prevent age-related hearing loss. This means that you should consume a diet that is rich in seafood, leafy green vegetables and beans.

4. Clean Your Ears Properly

If your ears are clogged with earwax, it can make it difficult for you to hear. However, there is a good chance that you are cleaning your ears the wrong way. Don't use a cotton swab to clean out the inside of your ear; cotton swabs should only be used on the outer part of your ear since they can actually cause you to push the earwax further in your ear. Instead, you can use a few drops of hydrogen peroxide to help dissolve some of your earwax, or you can talk to your medical professional about good ways to get rid of the wax in your ears. Just remember that some earwax is good, since it helps protect your ears.

The last thing that you probably want is to lose your hearing. Even though there are no fool-proof ways to prevent hearing loss, following these four tips and working with your doctor can help you maintain your hearing over the years.
